O holy night lyrics. I saw this movie in theaters. That was a mistake. I heard it was good and was looking forward to watching it and enjoying it. Instead I sat in a theater for 135 minutes confused as to what the hell was going on.
If you're going to watch this movie, I'd recommend not paying money for it. Or not watching it at all. This movie is just bad in so many ways, and I don't understand why so many people like it. I guess its the book.
Characters - The acting is really bad. The problem with having children as your main characters is you have to cast children to play them. I've got nothing against these kids, but they're all cringeworthy in this movie. I'm sure they'll all come to realize this looking back at this movie a few years from now. I can't blame them though. The "characters" that are written for these kids are terrible. They're not even cliches, they're just boring nothings. Most of the characters don't even react to seeing crazy things, they're just extremely calm. Also a lot of these kids make really dumb decisions. I'm not saying children are geniuses in real life, but in this movie, most of them are pretty stupid. A lot of the dialogue is bad as well. Its hard to get invested in a movie when none of the "characters" act like real people. They're all so unlikable. I liked Pennywise. He was kinda entertaining in the first few scenes but then he gets utterly ruined in what I am assuming is the finale.
The First Scene - This is the only scene in this movie that I liked. It would've worked better as a short film. Too bad everything after it is terrible.
Tone - This movie isn't scary. There are a few predictable jumpscares and a few creepy moments, but nothing was scary. Two things that contributed to this are the bad effects and the unlikable "characters." I don't understand why there are people who were scared by this mess.
The Plot - What plot? This "movie" is just a collection of scenes. Nothing is explained. There are constant continuity errors. This is just a barrage of nonsense. There might be a plot in the book, but there isn't one in this thing.
The Cinematography - Some shots are ok, but for the most part the look of this movie is very bland. Some of the practical effects are good, but for the most part everything that is CG looks very fake. The audio is pretty bad as well.
Logic - There is not logic to this movie. Nothing is established. Things just happen. No-one reacts to things like actual people would. This thing is so nonsensical that I don't think its even a movie. Its just a mess. Someone dumped a bunch of nonsense on the floor, whipped out a camera and tried to market it as a movie. Looks like it worked.
